CABBAGE (FALL VEGGIES)
Cabbage is in! Now, what do I do with it? What’s the best way to plant it, keep it alive and eventually harvest it? We’ll help you figure these questions out!
Can it be grown in containers?
Yes! Depending on the type of cabbage you plant, check to see what the spacing requirements are. Any veggie can be grown in a pot, just make sure it is a large enough pot! For example, Stonehead Cabbage should be planted 18″ apart in rows 36″ apart.
How long does it take to grow?
Most cabbages take 60-80 days to fully mature. Again, make sure to check and see what your specific cabbage requires.
How much sun does it need?
Cabbages LOVE full sun!
What varieties do you have in stock?
Strange’s West Broad carries (while supplies last):
Chinese: Mildly flavored, like celery
Early Jersey: Great for cooking or eating raw (one of the best tasting cabbages)
Flat Dutch: This is the best cabbage to use for sauerkraut! This variety has a very big head, sometimes 6-10 lbs.
Ruby Perfection: 4lb cabbages that are great as an accent in salads!
